RALEIGH, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina man is charged with murder after Tyra Bennett, 23, was shot and killed outside a Wake County home.
Around 11 a.m. on Monday, deputies with the Wake County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Camley Avenue in a neighborhood just outside the Beltline off Blue Ridge Road. Deputies said Bennett's body was found in a wooded area near the home.

Noa Najee Lorenzetti, 26, of Fuquay-Varina, was arrested Tuesday and charged with Bennett's murder.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how Bennett and Lorenzetti knew each other.

Bennett's father told WRAL News he did not recognize Lorenzetti or the area where Bennett was killed.

"She never mentioned him to me, and I have no idea why she was in that neighborhood," he said.

Bennett's father told WRAL News his daughter has two young kids, ages 4 and 18 months, who will now grow up without a mother. He also said Bennett was one week away from her birthday, writing in a text message his daughter "had a great personality and was a people person."

WRAL News spoke with Bennett's father on Tuesday outside the Wake County courthouse, where Lorenzetti made his first appearance.

"Our thoughts are with the victim's family during this difficult time," Sheriff Willie Rowe said. "We offer our sincerest condolences."

Lorenzetti was being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
