Caniac chaos took over PNC Arena Monday night, as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders 5-3 in Game 2 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Canes entered the third period trailling 3-1, but Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, Jordan Martinook and Jake Guentzel each scored a goal in the period, with Aho, Martinook and Guentzel scoring in the final three minutes of the game.

It was the Canes first comeback from a three-goal deficit in the playoffs since the Canes' Stanley Cup run in 2006. The Islanders were 81-0 all-time when leading by three goals before Monday's game.

The Canes were able to control the start of the first period but not the finish. Carolina outshot New York 8-0 the first thirteen minutes of the period, but a loose rebound reminscent of New York's goal in the first period beat Freddie Andersen to start the scoring. Kyle Palmeiri beat Andersen for his first goal of the playoffs and a 1-0 Islanders lead.

Carolina was the more physical team in the period. A big hit from Jesperi Kotkaniemi knocked Cal Clutterbuck's helmet off and ignited the crowd. Steph Noesen and Kyle McLean dropped the gloves for a fight, Noesen landed several punches and took McLean to the ice.

With just 14 seconds left in the 1st period, New York struck again, a one timer from Bo Horvat beat Andersen for a 2-0 lead. Carolina outshot New York 11-8 in the period.

Less than four minutes into the second period the Canes were unable to clear a puck that got centered out to Anders Lee who has able to work it past Andersen for a 3-0 lead.

The Canes finally got on board on the power play with 6:59 left in the second. Jake Guentzel collected a Seth Jarvis shot and passed it to Teuvo Teravainen who was able to finish for his first goal of the playoffs cutting the lead to 3-1 New York.
